Twilight: Netflix’s Anticipated Edward Cullen TV Show Gets Unexpected Season 2 Renewal News

Twilight fans have received a positive update on Netflix’s highly anticipated Edward Cullen TV show. The streamer has confirmed that the project is moving forward. The animated series will revisit Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance from a different perspective.

According to What’s on Netflix, the streaming service has ordered two seasons of the animated series Midnight Sun. The show will retell the original Twilight story from Edward Cullen’s perspective and is based on Meyer’s novel of the same name.

Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs reportedly confirmed the two-season order on November 5, 2026. While the announcement comes as exciting news for fans, Netflix has yet to reveal a release date for the series.

Netflix first announced the Midnight Sun project in September 2024. However, the series received no major updates until July 2026, when a casting call was reportedly issued for two key characters, Jacob Black and his father, Billy Black. The latest development suggests that the series is making progress, with fans now awaiting further updates on the project.

Why Midnight Sun’s two-season order could make a big difference

The two-season order for Midnight Sun marks a significant development for the project. Netflix typically renews new series based on their performance after the first season rather than committing to multiple seasons upfront. However, the decision to order two seasons at once hints at the streamer’s confidence in the project and allows production to move forward without waiting for Season 1’s performance.

Furthermore, the two-season order has given fans an idea of how the production might approach Meyer’s novel, which is longer than the original Twilight book.

The decision could mean that the story will be split into two parts, allowing the series to explore Edward’s thoughts and personal struggles in greater depth. However, this remains speculation, as Netflix and Lionsgate have yet to confirm any plot details for the animated series.

Sinead Daly will serve as the showrunner of Midnight Sun, in addition to writing and executive producing the series. Meyer will also executive produce alongside Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Erik Feig, Meghan Hibbett, and Emily Wissink. Meanwhile, Netflix has yet to announce the voice cast for the animated series.
