Somewhere in the final stretch of 34, my drinking habits have quietly changed. I still love a cocktail, but if I’m cracking open something at home lately, there’s a decent chance it contains THC instead of alcohol.
I used to be more of a joint person, but smoke and marathon training aren’t exactly ideal partners. Edibles, meanwhile, can be a mixed bag. A THC drink has become my happy medium. I know exactly how much I’m having, and I can settle onto the couch without wondering whether the gummy I ate 45 minutes ago is doing absolutely nothing or about to ruin my evening.
I’ve worked my way through plenty of canned THC drinks—Señorita’s margarita-inspired flavors remain a personal favorite—but I’d never ventured into THC wine territory until Playdate showed up on the scene.
The new hemp-infused, non-alcoholic California rosé is billed as the first THC-infused rosé produced at commercial scale. Each bottle contains 15 milligrams of hemp-derived THC, divided into five 3-milligram servings with 25 calories and 2 grams of sugar per serving.
A bottle costs $19.99 online, and in my case, pairs beautifully when I gave it a try on an early Friday afternoon with some Law & Order: SVU reruns on.
What Does Playdate THC Rosé Taste Like?
When I poured my first glass, I caught a slightly petrol-like smell that was hard to ignore. I grew up weirdly enjoying the smell of gas stations from the car, though, so the jury is still out on whether I mean that as criticism.
Flavor-wise, my immediate thought was less traditional rosé and more sour beer. Between some slight fizz and the tartness, I’m not sure rosé is the first category I would’ve landed on in a blind tasting. That said, it did grow on me after a few sips.

And the longer I drank it, the more wine-like it started to taste. By the end of the glass, I was sipping it pretty happily, and as someone whose relationship with wine has historically been very bottle-or-bust, that felt like a good sign.
How Did I Feel While Drinking Playdate THC Rosé?
I’m used to THC drinks with 5 milligrams per can, so I was especially curious about the smaller 3-milligram serving. I half expected it to take forever to notice anything, but instead, it crept in gradually.
After a while, I noticed that soothing body relaxation I’m looking for without feeling particularly out of it. I could follow SVU, get some work done, and type sentences without later discovering I’d written complete gibberish.

Obviously, THC hits everyone differently. But for me, 3 milligrams landed in a pleasantly mellow place.
The Verdict
I’m not completely convinced Playdate tastes exactly like the rosé its packaging promises. But once I stopped expecting a traditional glass of wine and let it be its own thing, I liked it considerably more.
And as I continue drinking less alcohol, that’s probably where Playdate makes the most sense to me. A THC can is great when I’m home on the couch, but a bottle feels like something you bring to dinner, open for the table, and drink with friends. Apparently rosé all day still applies. It just looks a little different now.
