Fox News host Larry Kudlow rolled out the red carpet for President Donald Trump on Sunday with a truly fawning introduction.
In a convivial conversation on Sunday Morning Futures, Kudlow — who worked as Director of the National Economic Council in Trump’s first term — raved about the state of the country and Trump’s job performance.
“I just want to begin with this thought, sir,” Kudlow said. “I think you’re on a roll, OK? I think you’re on a roll … I mean, you’ve been relentless! Your campaigning, it’s Herculean. You’re turning the tide. You’re getting voters out. You’re raising enthusiasm. The economy is booming. We’re the hottest in the world. Stocks are doing great. Drug prices are coming down. Oil is flowing through the Persian Gulf. I mean, I think in the last month you may have turned this whole thing around!”
“I have worked very hard,” Trump said — taking a victory lap. “I’ve done 14 rallies in nine days and it’s a lot.”
The president went on to speak nearly uninterrupted for roughly four minutes. He lauded Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) — whose physique he has repeatedly complimented in recent days. The he shifted gears to talk about the Texas Senate race — where he endorsed Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in backhanded fashion.
“People always say they don’t like the way he dresses or they don’t like the way he talks,” Trump said. “It’s irrelevant. He’s a great attorney general. That’s the only thing that matters.”
After Trump’s lengthy monologue, Kudlow teed up Trump to continue by lavishing praise on him once more.
“Listen, the economy, sir, is booming!” Kudlow said. “I mean, you’ve got a tremendous —I know you say this — the hottest economy in the world. I saw a number a couple of days ago, retail sales, same store sales, up almost 10% year on year! It’s the fastest in decades. I know when the media talks about the economy sir, all they talk about is gasoline prices. Now I know gasoline prices, temporarily, too high. I get that, it’s an issue. But people are out there spending! They’re working! People are working, they’re spending, they are investing. You just got this foreign investment from Audi coming into Georgia. I’m just saying, the economy is hot as a pistol! Jobs are being created. These are fabulous election messages!”
