A southern Colorado ski resort is hot on the heels of the Summit County ski areas that scrambled to be Colorado’s first to open earlier this week.
Wolf Creek Ski Area in Colorado’s San Juan Mountain range will open for the season on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
Treasure Stoke, Bonanza, and Nova lifts will operate from 9 am until 4 pm on Halloween and through Tuesday, November 3. Wolf Creek will close again Wednesday and Thursday, November 4 & 5. The resort plans to operate Fridays through Sundays until there’s significantly more snow.

With 22″ of snow to date, and 20″ falling over the last week alone, including 12″ of fairly wet snow that has made for an excellent base, Wolf Creek plans to open a mix of groomed runs and off-piste terrain.
A full list of runs that will be open can be found on Wolf Creek’s website. In total, roughly 30% of the mountain’s terrain will be open for skiing—an impressive stat given the time of year. Skiers should be prepared for variable conditions, ski with extra caution, and be prepared for unmarked obstacles and possibly open water.
Wolf Creek’s Ski & Snowboard school, rentals, and Treasure Sports shop will all open this weekend, as will food and beverage services across the mountain. The Main Day Lodge and Upper Lodge will serve a homemade menu including burgers, fries, chili, soups, and a salad bar. Pathfinder Bar will have a full drink menu available too.
To kick off the season, Wolf Creek will have Local Appreciation lift ticket rates. Lift tickets will cost $73 for adults, $55 for seniors, and $36 for children.

Super El Niño predictions have indicated that ski areas in the Southwestern US, like Wolf Creek, could be in for a good season, and a Halloween opening day certainly bodes well for that. Recent updates from the Climate Prediction Center also say that El Niño is forecasted to peak between October and December, but could last until early spring of 2027.
