While there are endless reasons to travel to India—from its world-renowned cuisine to its ancient temples and vibrant cultural traditions—you can officially add another to the list: its beaches. Specifically, Palolem Beach, a destination that recently took home the title of the best beach in Asia in Beach.com’s Global Beach Index 2026.
To develop its ranking of 25 top beaches, the website considered expert nominations and reviewed hundreds of submissions, used NASA water color and clarity data, and analyzed thousands of reviews. The final rankings were determined using a weighted linear model that evaluated 18 standardized metrics, including popularity, public sentiment, accessibility, and climate.
Located in the state of Goa, Palolem Beach came in at No. 6 overall, and it was the only Asian beach to crack the top 25.

But what makes Palolem such a standout spot? According to travel writer Muskaan Pahwa, it’s all about the atmosphere. “It’s lively but not chaotic, with beach shacks serving fresh seafood and cold Kingfishers as the sun sets. There’s live music some evenings, silent discos, and dolphins if you take a boat out early in the morning,” they shared in the Beach.com report. “It strikes the balance between having enough going on to feel vibrant without losing its soul to overdevelopment.” There’s even a noise curfew starting at 10 p.m. (hence the aforementioned silent discos).
The Beach.com ranking also noted Palolem received “perfect marks” for its “beach, amenities, water quality, and overall experience,” and it’s a place you can visit year-round (although the time period between March and May is prime beach time). Some of the Goa coastline has been developed, but, according to Beach.com, regulations have kept Palolem Beach from the same fate. “The accommodation lining the sand consists largely of bamboo and timber huts—structures that are dismantled at the end of every season and rebuilt the next. The beach looks now broadly as it did 15 years ago, which on the Indian coastline is a meaningful achievement,” the editors stated.
Many reviewers on Google echo these sentiments. With one sharing that the beach is “calm, clean, and not crowded at all, which made it very peaceful,” and another reporting that the “beach is very well-maintained’ and has “beautiful soft white sand and clear, safe water that is perfect for a relaxing swim.”
