Mark-Paul Gosselaar wasn’t rooting for a romance between his and Kylie Bunbury’s characters on Pitch, even if viewers wanted one. “No, no, no. Then I gotta go home and explain that to my wife,” he joked.
The 52-year-old actor revisited the short-lived 2016 Fox baseball drama in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly published October 29. He said he did not know whether Mike Lawson and Ginny Baker would ultimately have become a couple.
Whenever an intimate scene is coming up, Gosselaar said, he gives his wife, Catriona McGinn, advance warning. He joked that she needs “earmuffs, an eye mask and the whole thing” whenever he gets intimate with someone onscreen.
Gosselaar and McGinn married in 2012 and have two children together, Dekker Edward and Lachlyn Hope. He also has two older children, Michael Charles and Ava Lorenn, from his previous marriage.
Fans’ Interest Complicated Sir’s Planned Exit From ‘Found’
Romantic speculation followed Gosselaar into NBC’s Found, though the circumstances were far darker. He played Hugh “Sir” Evans, who had kidnapped Shanola Hampton’s character, Gabi Mosely, when she was a teenager. Some viewers nevertheless began rooting for the two characters to get together.
Gosselaar told Us that, during development, he had been told Sir needed to die so Gabi could move beyond her traumatic past. He initially expected to stay for only two seasons. As viewers became invested in the pairing, however, discussions turned toward keeping him around longer.
He did not know how far that revised direction might have gone. He praised the writing and his chemistry with Hampton, saying the cast was gaining a better understanding of the characters during the second season. NBC canceled the series in May 2025, and Gosselaar said he would have welcomed more episodes.
His subsequent work includes a return to Will Trent and the upcoming Crave comedy Bulges. According to Bell Media, the latter follows the staff of an all-male restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Gosselaar stars and also serves as an executive producer.
McGinn Didn’t Know His ‘Saved by the Bell’ Fame When They Met
McGinn wasn’t familiar with Gosselaar’s fame as Zack Morris when they first met. He recalled her introduction to his career during a January 21, 2025, appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
He also described where acting ranks among his priorities. “I’m a husband first, a father second [and an] actor third,” he told Hudson, as recalled by Entertainment Weekly. His daily routine, he explained, involves fitting work around his children’s sports and the responsibilities of being a parent.
Gosselaar Brings His ‘Time Out’ Gesture to a Cancer Awareness Campaign
The latest interview came as Gosselaar partnered with AstraZeneca on Meet Your Mark, which launched October 28. The campaign encourages people diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones to ask healthcare professionals whether biomarker testing may be appropriate for them.
Gosselaar said cancer diagnoses among people close to him had motivated his involvement. The campaign also brings back his familiar “time out” gesture from Saved by the Bell, according to AstraZeneca.
