In a video uploaded at midnight, Carey transformed into a punk-rock queen while taking the stage at a dimly lit punk club to perform “Hermit,” an alt-rock song she secretly wrote in the ’90s under the name Chick, per Today. As she rocked out on stage—shedding any semblance of her iconic high-glam pop persona—Carey rocked a head-to-toe punk-inspired ensemble, including a studded leather jacket, a plaid miniskirt in red, fingerless gloves, heavy gold chain necklaces, and a pair of fuzzy black kitty ears covered in rhinestones.

In close-up clips of her performance, Carey also donned a blonde wig with shaggy bangs and cherry-red highlights that framed her face and seemed to blend in seamlessly with the heavy rouge along her cheekbones.
