A new landmark of luxury is coming to Kyoto’s most storied neighborhood. The Imperial Hotel Co., Ltd. has announced that the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto will officially open on March 5, 2026, with reservations now available. Set in the heart of the Gion district, the hotel promises to bring a new era of refined Japanese hospitality to one of the country’s most culturally rich destinations.
The property is housed within the historic Yasaka Kaikan, a nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property. The 90-year-old structure has been meticulously reimagined to preserve its historic architecture while infusing contemporary elegance, creating a serene retreat that showcases both the past and present of Kyoto.
Guests will discover three distinct atmospheres that capture different sides of the city. The Main Building – Heritage maintains original pillars and window frames, offering a direct connection to Gion’s iconic streetscape. The Main Building’s floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views of central Kyoto. Meanwhile, the North Wing introduces tatami flooring for the first time in the Imperial Hotel brand, offering a calming, traditional ambiance inspired by Kyoto’s wooden machiya townhouses.

The hotel features 55 guest rooms across five categories, including Signature Suites, Suites, Junior Suites, Grand Premier Rooms, and Premier Rooms. Signature Suites, ranging up to 1,377 square feet, pair cedar, washi paper, and handcrafted textiles with expansive views of the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo or Kyoto’s mountains.
Suites in the Heritage Building feature restored woodwork and subtle gold accents, while Junior Suites incorporate natural stone, local art, and soft lighting.
Grand Premier and Premier Rooms span all three wings, with the Heritage Area preserving original beams and woodwork, and the North Wing offering tatami and minimalist ceramic accents for an atmosphere rooted in Japanese tradition.
As a member of The Leading Hotels of the World since April 2025, the Imperial Hotel, Kyoto will also feature restaurants, a bar, and wellness facilities including a spa, swimming pool, and fitness gym.
