Florence Pugh Reveals Her Perfect Road Trip—and It Involves Plenty of Snacks, Crime Podcasts, and Nap Time

With a career that has taken her around the world, Florence Pugh knows a thing or two about embracing the journey and the unexpected turns along the way. This sense of curiosity and openness is what makes her new role a natural fit. She is no stranger to the Jaguar legacy—her ties to the brand go beyond her being the newest ambassador and extend to her involvement in the launch of the all-electric Type 01, the first model in a new era for the brand.

“I feel immensely proud about this relationship. I still haven’t quite wrapped my head around it because it feels a little bit like a fever dream,” Pugh told Travel + Leisure at the Oct. 6 launch party for Jaguar’s Type 01 car. “I have grown up with the understanding that Jaguar is a brand that you should feel proud to drive, you should feel proud to be a part of. We as Brits are immensely proud of this heritage brand. I can’t put into words how beautiful this kind of partnership and this relationship is.”

There’s also a personal connection to this new title for the East of Eden star. “My granddad was a huge Jaguar fan, and he only drove Jaguars,” Pugh told T+L. “He spent his whole life working toward making sure that he could have the things that he wanted. And as a child, I didn’t quite understand how special that was, that he had Jaguars. I feel like if he was still here with us, he would be very proud that I am in this relationship with Jaguar now.”

Best trick for getting over jet lag?

Recently it’s changed. Before, it was enjoy my time on the plane. If I wanted a glass of wine, have a glass of wine, sleep, watch everything. I had to grow up a little bit because my head hurts too much. Now, when I get off the plane, I go straight to my hotel, and I have lymphatic drainage. I feel so much better, and then I can go and have dinner.

Favorite filming location?

I love shooting in Budapest because of the food. I feel like my eyes have been totally open now to all of the restaurant scene and all of the different types of cuisine.

Most unusual item you always pack?

I pack quite a lot of my essential oils, because I love making the room smell amazing with humidifiers. I pack crystals. I know that’s a bit woo-woo, but I really do like packing crystals. And if I’m on a flight, in my little roll-on, I will take a pair of fluffy slippers, pajamas, and an LED mask. I’m just using that as beauty time.

Destination that you want to visit?

I want to go to Iceland, and I want to just be in and around it. And I also would love to go to Vietnam. I really want to eat the food. I want to see the people. I want to just feel the fabrics.

Favorite destination to return to?

Probably Morocco. I shot there for Black Widow, and I haven’t been back there since. Where else would I love to go? Maybe New Zealand. I love the South Island.

Favorite road trip snack?

Quavers. They’re my favorite crisps ever. And then the other day, I went into a shop, and I found myself on a packet.

Favorite travel companion?

My best friend Theo.

Naturally, Jaguar’s newest ambassador is well-versed in planning a perfect road trip. First, her ideal location: Scotland or Wales. Next, she needs a “full bag of snacks” that she gathers along her journey.

“I want cheese, I want meat, I want dips, and I want crisps, lots of different flavors. I want sweeties. I want to be able to give some of the food that I’m eating to my dog because she’ll be panting down my neck,” Pugh told T+L. After indulging in those treats, Pugh admitted, it will “likely all make me sick,” so a nap will quickly follow. “Whoever’s driving me will keep driving for about two hours before I wake back up again,” she continued.

As far as what she’s listening to, she often turns on a crime podcast. “I want things that people haven’t found out, and on the podcast, I want to hear them go, ‘Oh, I’ve been caught.’ I want an array of emotions when I’m on the road trip,” she told T+L. No road trip is complete without “plenty of wee stops,” Pugh said, which also allows for many opportunities to take in and capture the scenery: “I want photographic evidence of everything that we’ve done.”

So, what is her ideal travel outfit for all these adventures? It’s an outfit based entirely on a surprising shoe choice: a chunky heel. “I love traveling in heels, but not high heels. I want a chunky, almost hoof heel,” Pugh told T+L. “I want to be able to march through an airport. It’s so comfortable, if it’s the right heel.”

In addition to the heel, Pugh said she needs a “really cool jacket” that can be thrown over her shoulders. Packing-wise, she aims to have an array of “tightly rolled silk dresses,” around 20 pairs of underwear, socks, a nice bikini (because “you never know when you’re going to find a great sauna”), and a few tanks, leaving a little space reserved for shopping once she lands.
