Kirk Franklin Tapped to Produce Tyler Perry’s ‘The Gospel of Christmas’ Soundtrack

The most wonderful time of the year is right around the corner. To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, Tyler Perry is gearing up to premiere his next Netflix film, The Gospel of Christmas, on November 11. To bring its accompanying music to life, Perry has tapped 19-time Grammy winner Kirk Franklin to produce its original soundtrack.

“Music has always had a way of telling the parts of a story that words sometimes can’t. What I love about this soundtrack is that it’s not just music that accompanies a film,” Franklin tells VIBE. “It’s music that carries the heart of the story. There’s joy, there’s pain, there’s hope, and there’s faith. All the things that make us human. My prayer is that people connect with these songs long after the credits roll.”

The 11-track album features gospel greats like Shirley Caesar, Ann Nesby, Karen Clark-Sheard, and Smokie Norful, as well as Chanté Moore, Fantasia, and Tank singing lead on songs with a robust choir. Classic holiday songs like “Mary Did You Know?” and “Do You Hear What I Hear?” will also appear on the soundtrack.

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, The Gospel of Christmas follows a preacher named Isaac (Durrell “Tank” Babbs) as he and his wife, Rebecca (Fantasia Barrino Taylor), travel to New York City with their family. Isaac has been tasked with rebuilding his family’s failing church in a rough neighborhood. As he faces doubt, temptation, and challenges threatening his community, he must rediscover his faith and the power of prayer to save everything that matters most.

“What I appreciate about Tyler is that he’s never been afraid to tell stories that reflect the beauty and complexity of our community. This film reminds us of the importance of family, faith, and finding hope even when life doesn’t look the way we imagined,” Franklin says of the film.

“I’m grateful to be part of something that brings those conversations to the screen, especially during a season when so many people need to be reminded that there’s still something worth believing in.”

The Gospel of Christmas features a powerhouse cast, including Moore, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, CeCe Winans, The Clark Sisters, Jekalyn Carr, Le’Andria Johnson, and more.
