Jodie Sweetin’s Life After ‘Full House’ Took a Shocking Turn

Jodie Sweetin has opened up about the difficult years that followed her time on Full House. The actress revealed that her struggles with alcohol and drugs intensified during college. She also discussed her early attempts at sobriety and recalled earning a 0.9 GPA during her first semester.

During Wednesday’s episode of the We’re Still Here, Babe podcast, Sweetin discussed her time at Chapman University with host Natanya Ross. She earned a scholarship to attend the school, but her drinking and drug use increased during that period. “It was a hard time of my life, because that was when my drinking and using really picked up,” she explained. Sweetin also revealed that she first got sober shortly after turning 18.

Her first semester proved especially difficult, as she earned a 0.9 GPA. Sweetin said she broke her ankle and used the injury as an excuse to skip classes. However, she still attended parties during that time. “It got real bad real quick,” she recalled.

Sweetin said she remained sober for the next couple of years. She even spent her 21st birthday without alcohol but later returned to substance use. By then, she had married, bought and remodeled a house, and graduated from college. She described what followed as a period of “being a f—ing maniac” before deciding to “blow up my life.”

Sweetin also recalled staying out all night partying and using drugs. She explained that alcohol was difficult to hide because “it reeks,” while speed was easier for her to conceal. After receiving an ADHD diagnosis later in life, she began to understand why stimulants had appealed to her, explaining that they made her feel “level.”

In 2025, Sweetin shared that she had gone 16 years without alcohol and 13 years without a medication relapse following a car accident. Her recovery involved several setbacks, but she has continued to speak openly about her experiences with substance use and sobriety.
