Key Takeaways
All-inclusive resorts can make family vacations feel easier by reducing the mental load of planning meals, activities, and logistics.
Kid-friendly amenities like water parks and kids’ clubs allow children to have fun while giving parents moments to relax.
A successful family vacation doesn’t mean doing nothing as a parent—it’s about managing less and enjoying more quality time together.
As a mom of two, I love taking family vacations. The act of “vacationing” just tends to take on a different meaning after kids.
Before children, a vacation meant sleeping in, enjoying relaxing meals, and spending hours by the pool without being responsible for anyone else’s sunblock application. Now, with a 10-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, vacation can sometimes feel like the same load of parenting, but just at a prettier location.

There are bags to pack, meals everyone needs to agree on, activities to plan, wet bathing suits to keep track of, and the repetitive question, “What are we doing today?”
So when my husband and I took our kids to the newly opened Lopesan Caoba Lagoon Resort, Spa & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, I had one question I genuinely wanted answered: Can an all-inclusive family vacation actually feel relaxing for the parents, too?
After 5 days, I learned that the secret isn’t necessarily to do less. It’s staying at a resort that makes doing everything feel a whole lot easier.
Waterparks for Every Age and Stage

When you’re traveling with a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old, finding activities they both genuinely want to do can be half the battle. Both of them love spending time in the water, but they aren’t huge fans of the beach (yuck to sand and seaweed from their POVs).

Lopesan Caoba Lagoon is designed around their waterparks, which include a new massive lagoon-style pool with amazing waterfalls that feel like you’re in a completely different world. Once we went into this space, the kids enjoyed exploring the area without a care about what was next on the itinerary. In fact, we easily spent over an hour in the cenote-inspired pools.
We didn’t need an itinerary or a new excursion every morning. The kids just wanted to enjoy the different water parks, and that was just fine with us. The bigger slides and attractions gave my 10-year-old the excitement he was looking for, while the splash areas gave my 6-year-old space to play at her own speed when she was tired of the bigger waterpark space.
There’s also a new wave pool that quickly became another family favorite. My husband and I were able to just watch on the sidelines as the kids played, floated, and enjoyed some fun in the sun. That’s one of the things I appreciated the most: There wasn’t just one definition of fun. The water parks also became pretty low-maintenance for us to sit back and enjoy with the kids.

There’s No Need to Leave the Resort
Once we arrived, we unpacked and didn’t look back for 5 days. There was no daily loading and unloading of a rental car. No researching restaurants every night. No constant negotiation about what attraction we’d tackle next.

Beyond the pools and water park, the resort offers kids’ and teen clubs. My husband and I booked a session to have the kids enjoy the kids club for an hour and a half while we enjoyed a snack and explored some shops on the boulevard, the resort’s open-air promenade. When we picked up the kids, no one complained or gave negative feedback. Quite the opposite! They were excited to show their crafts made with recycled art materials. I appreciated that we were able to enjoy some guilt-free alone time.
There’s also a playground, theater, bowling, an arcade, and other activities concentrated within walking distance. It became a nightly tradition to visit the arcade after dinner every night. I will note that arcade points and bowling costs are not included in the visit, and there’s a separate cost to play with reasonable rates quoted.
We also enjoyed the evening entertainment, including salsa dancing and lively music. Once the kids got too tired, everything was within walking distance from our room, and we were able to call it a night without any hassle. A true luxury in itself.
Feeding Everyone Was a Breeze
Meals need a section of their own because I was able to manage taking an actual break from cooking and feeding everyone (yes, I felt like a new woman).

Lopesan Caoba Lagoon has a main international buffet plus seven à-la-carte restaurants, with options ranging from Italian and Brazilian to Indian, Thai, Mexican-inspired cuisine, and traditional Dominican food. I appreciate having a range of options as a mom of two, and every restaurant we tried was delicious.
My kids personally loved the buffet the most. We would go for breakfast and sometimes lunch depending on our schedule for the day. The buffet has everything from traditional Dominican-style dishes (we love mangu!) to pasta, fresh salads, sushi, kid-friendly desserts, and so much more.
But what made it relaxing wasn’t the number of restaurants. It was removing the mental load of figuring out where we were going to eat, whether there would be something the kids liked, and what another restaurant bill was going to look like.
Can an All-Inclusive Actually Be Relaxing With Kids?
Let’s be honest, relaxing on a family vacation doesn’t mean doing nothing as a parent. There will still be your share of tantrums by tired kiddos, and sibling spats here and there. The goal isn’t to live a fantasy life here. It’s about having to do and manage less.

At Lopesan Caoba Lagoon, our kids got the water-park vacation they would happily repeat tomorrow (and oftentimes do ask about returning to). My husband and I got something parents don’t always connect with family travel: We got to enjoy our time, too.
