A powerful cyclone moving across the Bay of Bengal is forcing travel changes before it reaches India’s eastern coast.
The storm has triggered transport precautions as authorities prepare for severe weather, and its expected effects extend beyond the immediate landfall area.
For visitors with trips planned over the next several days, the situation presents two different concerns: confirmed transport changes in eastern India and weather warnings for people heading into Nepal’s mountains.

135-km/h Winds Target Andhra Pradesh During Oct. 28 Landfall
India’s Meteorological Department expects Cyclone Arnab to cross the Andhra Pradesh-Yanam coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam, by Wednesday morning, October 28. Its latest coastal weather bulletin, issued Tuesday, forecasts sustained winds of 125 to 135 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 150 kilometers per hour.
The storm could also produce a surge of 1 to 2 meters above the normal astronomical tide, potentially inundating low-lying areas of Andhra Pradesh.
Authorities are evacuating vulnerable coastal communities. By Monday night, nearly 50,000 people had moved to shelters in Andhra Pradesh, out of an estimated 400,000 who might need evacuation, according to Reuters.

The airline also cautioned that road travel to airports could be affected. Its advisory is a warning of possible disruption, not confirmation that every flight on those routes has been canceled.
Passengers should verify their individual flights through the airline’s flight-status page before leaving for the airport.

Its Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts rainfall and thunderstorms beginning Thursday night, October 29, with conditions potentially worsening across several provinces on Friday and Saturday.
The forecast warns of possible heavy snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches in high-hill and Himalayan areas.
Authorities have advised tourists to avoid high-altitude destinations during the period and remain in safe locations. Flooding, landslides and debris flows could also disrupt roads and air travel in affected areas, according to HimalPress.
These are forecast-driven precautions. Visitors with high-altitude treks planned between October 29 and 31 should contact their guides and tour operators about local conditions before setting out.
