Want to bake the perfect Anzac biscuits? Try this classic CWA recipe

This CWA classic comes together with only a few basic ingredients, perfect for whipping up a quick batch in time for afternoon tea.

These buttery biscuits were reportedly packed into parcels for soldiers serving on the front line, making these treats — call them cookies at your peril! — a part of Australian folklore.

Today they are a yearly tradition and the trick to giving them an even golden colour is to rotate your oven trays halfway through the cooking time. This will also ensure they “snap” when broken in half for a quick dunk in a cup of tea.

See how the home cooks on ABC iview’s Recipe of the Year did when recreating these in episode five, and then give it a shot yourself.
