Tokyo Disneyland Reveals Opening Date and Details for Huge New Ride

Tokyo Disneyland is gearing up for one of its most anticipated Tomorrowland expansions in years, and Disney has finally pulled back the curtain on the world’s very first attraction inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios hit Wreck-It Ralph.

Titled Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the brand-new interactive ride will officially open its doors to guests on April 15, 2027.

Taking over the former Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters space, the storyline plunges riders directly into the neon, candy-coated racing game from the film. Trouble starts when the villainous King Candy attempts to hijack the video game realm, turning the kingdom’s beloved sweets—including gummy candies, lollipops, bubble gum, and ice cream—into destructive “Sugar Bugs” hellbent on devouring Sugar Rush. Guests board high-tech vehicles to team up alongside Ralph and Vanellope, using vehicle-mounted scanners to zap and restore the Sugar Bugs back to their sweet, “kawaii” original forms.

The ride introduces a competitive gaming system where points are awarded based on both the number and specific types of Sugar Bugs zapped during the chase. Riders can monitor their scores on real-time vehicle display screens, with final scores and onboard action photos automatically syncing to the Tokyo Disney Resort App after the ride.

Beyond the attraction itself, the surrounding Tomorrowland corridor is getting an expansive video-game-themed makeover. A dedicated new retail shop, Pixel Prism, will open alongside the ride on April 15, featuring a glowing entrance archway, fiber-optic decor, and pixelated flooring, stocking Ralph-themed plush, retro candies, and toy replicas of the in-ride scanners.

Tokyo Disney Resort is also known among park enthusiasts for its legendary, inventive popcorn flavors, and this expansion brings a brand-new one to the lineup. Starting March 17, 2027, a new Tomorrowland popcorn kiosk called Popping Station will debut Sugar-Lime Popcorn—a sweet-and-tart blend inspired by the ride’s mischievous Sugar Bugs.

Park-goers won’t have to wait until April to get in on the action. Beginning January 12, 2027, Disney is releasing a companion smartphone mini-game that can be played at home, alongside an augmented version playable exclusively inside Tokyo Disneyland. In-park photo opportunities and decor will roll out on February 18, followed by nightly Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue projection shows mapped onto Cinderella Castle starting March 18.

The Ralph attraction serves as the opening chapter of a massive multi-year reimagining of Tomorrowland. Just steps away, construction continues on Space Mountain Earthrise, a ground-up reimagining of the iconic coaster featuring brand-new indoor coaster technology and a redesigned Tomorrowland Plaza scheduled to debut in 2027.
