When you live in New England during the holidays, it can feel like a Hallmark movie.
A Betway study found that a Vermont town was found to be one of the 10 most idyllic holiday destinations in America, akin to a Christmas Hallmark film.
“Across North America, there are real-life towns that look as if they’ve been lifted straight from a Hallmark movie set,” the list said. “The question is, which ones best capture that quintessential Christmas movie magic?”
To make the list Betway measured the number of holiday rentals with an indoor fireplace, average snowfall in December, average temperature in December, and cabin holiday rentals in a given town or city.
Here’s why Stowe was named as the third-most Hallmark-like of small towns in the United States.

Stowe was named as one of the comforting and third-most Hallmark-adjacent town in the U.S. for its above average snowfall of just over 11 inches and temperatures averaging 23 degrees.
“210 cabin rentals and 517 holiday rentals with indoor fireplaces offer cozy stays, while its charming streets and rustic mountain scenery capture the essence of a classic small-town winter escape,” Betway said.
And what gets more festive and whimsical than watching the “Sound of Music” around Christmas time. In Stowe, you can get double the Von Trapp fun.
If you’re a fan of “The Sound of Music” movie-musical, then “The Ski Capital of the East” has a surprise for you.
“In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe, Vermont, on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria,” the Von Trapp Family Lodge and Resort website said.
You can visit the lodge and resort they and their descendants would end up own and operating at 700 Trapp Hill Road.
