Why you ask? Because this hotel isn’t your typical brick and mortar building. Instead, it’s a massive sculpture carved from the elements, and it offers guests a truly one of a kind experience.
Not only that, but the hotel offers guests nearby access to plenty of other winter weather worthy activities, including skiing and snowboarding. The Hotel De Glace in Quebec City may be the most unique accommodations in Canada
A hotel that appears to be carved out of snow and ice? No, this isn’t the creation of Disney’s Elsa. Instead, it’s the Hotel De Glace, a hotel that is made entirely out of the winter elements, and then lit up so that the walls themselves appear to glow. Even the furniture is hand-crafted out of ice and snow, which means you’ll want to bundle up if you decide to stay here. Forgot your long johns? Don’t worry, according to the website, the hotel provides some furs and bedding to help keep the chill away.
Located just 10 minutes outside the hustle and bustle of Quebec City, the hotel is touted as the only ice hotel in North America. Visitors can choose from a variety of packages, each of which has some different options, including:
-
Cocktails served in ice glasses when you arrive
-
A room at the nearby Hôtel Valcartier so you can shower and store your luggage
-
Hot tub and skating path access
-
Discounts on spa services

Room prices vary depending on what type of package you pick, but they cost a few hundred a night, with some prices reaching as high as $679 during the first week of January. Then there are the themed rooms, which feature hand-carved snow sculptures and unique designs. When you’re not in your room, you can die at the hotel’s ice bar, which features drinks served up in glasses made out of ice.

While you’re in town checking out the Hotel De Glace, you may want to make your way to some of the other local attractions, which include Montmorency Falls, whale watching, and riding a cable car. Of course, if you’re heading to Quebec with the hopes of getting the full winter experience at the ice hotel, you may want to opt for some more indoor options to help you warm up.

Once you’re ready to brave the cold again, you can check out the Marche de Noel Allemand de Quebec Christmas market (it runs from the end of November to just before Christmas each year). You can also don a pair of skates and hit up the Place d’Youville for a skating session.
No matter what you decide to do while you’re there, just be sure to pack accordingly. Quebec City can get quite chilly in the winter months, and you don’t want your good time to be ruined by the cold.
