This Carnival cruise dinner always sells out. Here’s why cruisers love it

Whether you’re eating in the main dining room, at the buffet, or in a specialty restaurant, dinner on a cruise always feel special — because you’re on vacation.

Whether you want to hang out in your flip flops with a burger on the pool deck or enjoy an elegant, three-course dinner, you can savor your meals in the vacation style that suits you on a Carnival cruise. But if you want to make the experience feel extra special with fine dining flair, exclusivity, and foodie appeal, you may want to book The Chef’s Table experience on your next one.

According to the cruise line’s brand ambassador, John Heald, The Chef’s Table dinner on Carnival cruise ships has become the hottest table at sea for Carnival cruisers. Heald discussed the popularity of the exclusive dinner in a Nov. 29 Facebook post.

“I was talking with the chef and he was telling me how massively popular our Chef’s Table events are. They’ve always been popular but they are more popular now than ever with virtually every ship every week being completely sold out, and that’s with some ships doing multiple tables each cruise,” Heald said.

Carnival’s Chef’s Table dinner offers a unique culinary experience

Heald wondered if the growing interest in these intimate, gourmet dinners hosted by each ship’s master executive chef stems from the popularity of TV shows about fine dining chefs.

“Certainly our guests seem to want to be part of this event and to feel the heat of service from the galley,” Heald said. “I also think a lot of people are doing this for an extra special night out. It’s a chance to do something different than just eat in a restaurant, a chance to enjoy perhaps a camaraderie at the table with new friends and to have the chef actually prepare and present the food.”

The Chef’s Table dinner on Carnival cruise ships begins with a Champagne toast and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a tour of the galley — the cruise ship kitchen — in operation. After the tour, the chef presents an elaborate dinner featuring appetizers, entrées, and desserts not found on regular dining room menus.

The Chef’s Table dinner is limited to 12-16 guests and costs $95 – $124 per person. Guests must be 12 years old or older to attend. The VIP experience is available to book on all Carnival cruise ships. Reservations can be made online in advance of your cruise.

“If you want to book The Chef’s Table, please don’t leave it too late because as I said, it is more popular than ever,” Heald added.

Carnival cruisers share reviews of The Chef’s Table

In addition to highlighting the popularity of The Chef’s Table, Heald asked cruisers who have recently attended one of these dinners to share their reviews of the experience in comments on the post.

Here’s what a couple of them had to say about the special event.

“Chef’s Table is one of the greatest experiences on board,” Chris Schreiner said. “Each course is meticulously prepared and presented by the next generation of chefs and explained by the Chef. Each Chef’s Table is a magical experience as you and those at the table with you (which adds to the experience) are treated to a wonderful evening.”

Peg Brown-Walker also shared a glowing review of the experience.

“We loved the Chef’s Table on the Jubilee! It is a combination of entertainment, galley tour, and fine dining. The Chef described each course. The staff was very knowledgeable, attentive, and worked together. We felt like we were in a cooking show on the Food Network! It was a wonderful experience and a great opportunity to try new food. Everything was pleasing to the eye and the palate,” she said. “The room had a windowed view of the galley on one side while we watched the sous chefs prepare our food on the other side. Questions and comments were encouraged. By the end of the evening, we were all saying, ‘Yes Chef!’”
