These Are the 20 Most Fun Cities in the U.S.
Financial company WalletHub conducted this study by gathering data from 182 cities across the U.S., based on 65 factors that make a city more fun (more info on that below).
Las Vegas clinched the No. 1 most fun spot, scoring 75 out of 100 points on a scale meant to determine the variety of fun and affordable activities citywide. Orlando came in at No. 2, with a score of about 65 points, followed by Miami with nearly 60 points.
Here’s a look at the top 20 most fun U.S. cities:
Here’s How the Most Fun Cities in the U.S. Were Determined
To come up with the 182 cities vying for the top spot, WalletHub chose the 150 most populous cities in the country, plus at least two of the most populous cities from every state. Then, the company analyzed 65 fun-indicating factors across three key categories:
-
Entertainment & Recreation: This included the number (per capita) of restaurants, ice cream shops, sporting facilities, public beaches and pools, movie theaters, hiking trails, sightseeing spots, shopping centers and more.
-
Nightlife & Parties: This included the amount (per capita) of beer gardens, music venues, dance clubs, casinos, comedy clubs and more.
-
Costs: For this category, WalletHub looked at the average cost of things like beer, wine, meals, movie tickets, hotel rooms and more.
“These cities are far more than tourist traps,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said of the top three cities on the list. “They provide a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for all types of interests, from sports to theaters to arcades, and they have plenty of diverse restaurants to try. The top cities offer affordable options for year-round fun for their residents, which is good for residents’ wallets and their mental health.”
