Returning to the reality of life on land after a cruise ends isn’t easy.
For some cruisers, the hardest part is waking up on the first morning after a cruise and realizing there’s no breakfast buffet waiting for them. Suddenly, you go from having endless options to fill your plate to being forced to fend for yourself.
But making your own meals isn’t the only thing you have to remember to do after a cruise vacation comes to an end.
A funny mishap that a cruiser recently shared in the Cruise community on Reddit highlights the unique challenges that cruisers face back on land when they really get comfortable with the cruise lifestyle.

Cruiser shares hilarious mistake made after returning from cruise
“Just sharing what happened to me when I got home after a cruise,” BadOk7611 began. “I think we were on Oasis of the Seas. Anyway, when I got home nice and relaxed after the cruise, I went to lunch the next day and walked right out of the restaurant.”
The cruiser accidentally treated the lunch like a meal in cruise ship restaurant and walked out without paying the bill.
“I got back to work and realized I didn’t pay. I forgot on land you have to pay. It wasn’t included in daily life,” BadOk7611 admitted.

Although embarrassing for the cruiser, the situation turned out alright in the end.
“After work, I went back to the restaurant with my tail between my legs and apologized. Thankfully, it was a place I go regularly, a mom and pop place, and the owner was cool. He said he wasn’t that worried,” BadOk7611 explained.
However, the waitress who served the cruiser was a little more concerned.
“I paid my debt and left a nice tip for the waitress, who the next time she saw me didn’t hold back and said I have to leave a card before she would take my order,” BadOk7611 added. “We still laugh about it years later.”

Accidental dine and dash moments are a real worry for some cruisers
Many cruisers in the subreddit got a kick out of the accidental dine and dash story, which received more than 400 upvotes. A few cruisers even noted in the comments that they had caught themselves almost doing the same thing in a restaurant after returning from a cruise.
It turns out that it’s something that some cruisers even worry about while they’re still on a cruise.
“This is such a timely post. I’m on a cruise right now and we had this exact conversation at dinner tonight and how we had to make sure we do not do this when we get home,” gypsysniper9 commented in the thread.

Not worrying about paying restaurant bills is one of the special pleasures of cruising that only other cruisers understand.
“I was just telling my non-cruising sister about how addicting it is to just get up and not worry about the bill for every meal, and how disappointing it is to remember to pay once you leave,” madhousechild added.
