This week, the art and design worlds are descending upon Miami. There are a host of fairs: Art Basel, Design Miami, and Untitled, just to name a few. But there are also museums to check out, from the Rubell to the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), restaurants to try, shops to peer into, and galleries to see. Choosing the right home base during Miami Art Week is imperative, whether you are optimizing for convenience or choosing based on the quality of the spa.
We’re here to help. If you’re in need of a last minute reservation or are already planning for next year, we’ve compiled a shortlist of our favorite Miami hotels to stay in for Art Basel and beyond.
The Shelborne by Proper

Patrick Michael Chin
After a $100 million renovation, the Art Deco hotel is open once again, revived by California-based Proper Hospitality and design studio ADC Atelier. It’s the new kid on Collins Avenue but has already made a splash this year with its modern rooms and picturesque, cabana-laden pool. It also happens to be ultra-convenient, located in the heart of Miami Beach.
Four Seasons at the Surf Club

FOUR SEASONS HOTELS AND RESORTS
If you want Basel to feel more like a tropical vacation, the Four Seasons at the Surf Club is the right choice. Nestled in residential Surfside, the beachfront resort is a true retreat, with an expansive spa and Thomas Keller’s Surf Club restaurant on the property. With Joseph Dirand-designed interiors, the Jazz Age building combines old Miami with modern luxury.

Soho Beach House

Soho Beach House
In the mood to party? If you’re staying at Soho Beach House, all you have to do is head downstairs. Particularly during Miami Art Week, the bar is buzzy and lively, as is Cecconi’s, the on site Italian restaurant. The hotel hosts performances and activations throughout the week, so you’re sure to stumble upon something interesting even en route to your Uber. But, if relaxing is more your speed, you can still head out to the hotel’s section of the beach or unwind at the spa.

1 Hotel South Beach

1 Hotel South Beach
The luxury hotel prides itself on being eco-friendly without compromising on amenities. Four pools (including one on the roof), large, contemporary rooms, and beach access make the hotel feel exceedingly comfortable. However, you’re still in the heart of South Beach’s action and the location is convenient to all of the fairs.

The Faena Hotel

Todd Eberle
The Faena is an explosion of color, bringing the artistic spirit into your hotel room. Hotelier Alan Faena enlisted director Baz Luhrmann and his wife, Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin, to help renovate the 1940s property. Though it opened in 2015, the hotel is still one of the best places to see and be seen during Miami Art Week. This year, the beach was transformed by a 50-foot kinetic sculpture, “Library of Us,” designed by British artist Es Devlin.
