One of the most beautiful destinations in the iconic Texas Hill Country is the adorable city of Ingram. Situated between Kerrville and Hunt, this city is a true hidden gem for those interested in art and outdoor living. Ingram boasts a peaceful escape on the banks of the Guadalupe River with a truly unexpected attraction: a replica of England’s famous Stonehenge!

Home to a selection of campsites, resorts, and ranch stays, Ingram is a low-key destination perfect for those looking for a true escape. The town is popular for art lovers thanks not only to the Stonehenge replica, Stonehenge II, but also the two Easter Island-inspired statues that also stand here. It boasts a blend of small-town charm and quirky creativity, with plenty of local art galleries, antique shops, and boutiques.

This small city sits just under an hour and a half northwest of San Antonio and is accessible by car via Interstate-10. The closest international airport is San Antonio International Airport (SAT). Visitors can also get to Ingram via a 2.5-hour drive from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin.

Visitors traveling to Ingram cannot miss the city’s main must-see attraction, Stonehenge II. This outdoor art installation stands at around 90% of the height and 60% of the width of the original monument, located in Wiltshire, England. The replica was created by artist Al Shepperd and his neighbor Doug Hill and was later relocated to the campus of the Hill Country Arts Foundation by the Guadalupe River. Today, it is a beloved roadside attraction that is free to visit every day between dawn and dusk.

Also on the campus of the Hill Country Arts Foundation are two 13-foot Easter Island head replicas, also created by artist Al Shepperd. The site is home to an arts center, which has exhibitions and workshops, and a theater that hosts shows, concerts, and dance classes. Though Stonehenge II is free to visit, it is advisable to call and check that the site is open. Guests are also able to book the attraction for events such as weddings and concerts.

The best time to visit Ingram is between March and May or October and November. This is due to spring and fall having long daylight hours during which you can see the Stonehenge II attraction while enjoying comfortable temperatures. Wildflowers will also be in bloom during springtime, which makes it a great time of year to visit for beautiful views and photography opportunities.

During a stay in Ingram, there are plenty of other outstanding attractions to add to your bucket list for a Hill Country road trip. One of the state’s most beloved landmarks is Enchanted Rock, which sits just over an hour’s drive from Ingram and is ideal for a beautiful hike. If you’re looking for a little-known Texas gem with shops and outdoor fun, head to Boerne, which is only about 45 minutes away.

If you plan on staying in Ingram for your entire vacation, there are also plenty of other things to do right there. The Guadalupe River runs right through town, offering an exciting tubing experience, so be sure to pack your water shoes and sunscreen! There are also great things to see and do in town, including a selection of artisanal boutiques, gift shops, and cozy cafes in Old Ingram.
