Taylor Swift and I have (at least) one thing in common: We’re both humbled every single time we attempt to crank out a few pull-ups.
The “Elizabeth Taylor” singer is giving the world an inside peek at her life on and off the Eras Tour stage in her new docuseries, Taylor Swift: The End Of An Era, on Disney+. The newest episode features a few clips from her workouts with her trainer Kirk Myers, the founder of Dogpound in New York City and Los Angeles.
Tay’s spoken a bit about her training process for the tour a bit before, and “intense” doesn’t even begin to describe it, especially with the length of the show. Before embarking on the Eras Tour, the longest concert she’d ever performed was about two hours and 15 minutes. “I never would’ve believed you if you’d told me we’d be doing a three-and-a-half-hour show,” she says in the doc.
To prepare, she began training about six months ahead of rehearsals, and the doc shows her doing both cardio and resistance training exercises. “I really had to up my game in terms of physical training,” Taylor adds. “I’ve never worked out this much in my life—it’s horrible.”
In the episode, Taylor does moves like:
-
Battle rope alternating waves and power slams
-
Sit-up medicine ball throws
-
Reverse crunches with legs extended
-
Russian twists with a medicine ball
-
Bicycle crunches with ankle weights
Tay’s least favorite move seems to be the assisted pull-ups—which she does 12 (!) of in the clip. “In no way do I ever apply this, at any point in the show, just want to flag that, as I do every time I have to do pull-ups,” she says while getting up to the bar. When Kirk says she’s gotten a lot stronger over the years, she says it’s due to her “pent-up rage and resentment” for the move. (Celebrities…they’re just like us!)

In addition to resistance training, Taylor also talked about doing a lot of cardio. Six months before the first rehearsal, she ran on the treadmill ever day at the tempo of all 44 songs on the setlist while singing them out loud. “You just don’t want [the audience] to see you panting,” she says, especially during the Reputation and 1989 portions of the concert because the choreography really gets the heart pumping.
In fact, Taylor says she runs around eight miles per show with all the movement she does back and forth on the stage! “You’re scaling the length of an NFL stadium,” she adds.
Well, shoutout to Tay for putting in those hours and making it look so easy. To the treadmill I go!
