After selling out of its viral “bearista” cups in November, Starbucks will give away thousands of the cups throughout the holiday season.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Starbucks posted a video of its holiday cups and one of its bear-shaped glass cups with a green beanie top with the caption, “Your chance is in the Starbucks app. Tomorrow, 12/8.”
Starbucks will give away 17,000 “bearista” cups as part of its Starbucks for Life “Merrython,” the company’s annual holiday game for Starbucks Rewards members. The coffee chain also will give away free drinks, food, Starbucks gift cards, bonus stars used to unlock app rewards, free Starbucks for a year and free Starbucks for life as part of the event.
From now through Jan. 4, Starbucks Rewards members can visit starbucksforlife.com and log in using their Starbucks Rewards account to start playing this year’s Merrython game. In the game, players will take a 90-second virtual run through four cities – Seattle, Milan, Tokyo and New York City – and collect red cups and menu items to earn points.
Each week begins with a new city and a free “Prize Play,” which is a chance to win prizes “awarded at random,” according to a news release from Starbucks. An average of more than 600 “bearista” cups are up for grabs each day, the news release stated.
Winners will receive an email with steps to claim their prize once prizes have been awarded. Each player can only win one of each prize type throughout the promotion, according to Starbucks’ news release.
Players can earn extra “Prize Play” opportunities by completing weekly challenges featured on the Starbucks for Life website, using a payment method linked to a Starbucks Rewards account at any Starbucks location or scanning their membership in the Starbucks app before checking out at Starbucks.
Free “Prize Plays” must be used during the week in which they are gifted, while “Prize Plays” that are earned through weekly challenges and Starbucks visits can be used anytime during the Starbucks for Life “Merrython” game, according to Starbucks’ news release.
