Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received an unwelcome message from critics in Britain, with some urging the couple to leave the UK and settle in Australia instead. A new reader poll conducted by the Daily Express found that 75% of participants supported the idea of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moving Down Under, prompting blunt reactions from those unhappy about their return to Britain.
The results come as Meghan prepares for her upcoming role on “Junior MasterChef Australia,” a television opportunity that has already attracted considerable attention.

According to the Daily Express poll, readers were asked whether Harry and Meghan should relocate to Australia following their reported return to the UK. The poll opened on October 30 at 7 a.m. and closed on November 1 at midday. Of those who participated, 75% voted in favor of the couple moving to Australia, while 22% opposed the idea. Another 3% said they were undecided. The results reflect the opinions of readers who chose to participate in the online poll, rather than a representative survey of the British population.
Nevertheless, the responses offered a glimpse of the hostility the Sussexes continue to encounter from some critics following their decision to step away from royal duties in 2020. The couple reportedly returned to Britain with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, at the end of August after spending six years living in the United States.

Some participants did not hold back when explaining why they wanted the Sussexes to leave Britain.
“Yes, please. Anywhere but here,” one reader wrote in response to the question about Australia. Another was equally direct, declaring, “We do not want them here.”
A third person suggested that Australia would offer the couple the distance and privacy they have frequently sought.
“They have to live somewhere, and it might as well be a place that is geographically as far away from the UK as possible,” the reader commented.
“Sorry Australia, but you do have far more wide open spaces than here, and they could live in complete privacy,” the person added.
Other participants questioned whether Australians would welcome the couple either, suggesting that relocating would not necessarily resolve the criticism they face. The comments highlight how divisive Harry and Meghan remain among some royal watchers, even as the couple attempts to establish a new chapter in Britain.
Meghan Markle Australia TV Role Fuels Relocation Discussion

The poll comes shortly after Meghan secured a role on the upcoming season of “Junior MasterChef Australia.” The Duchess of Sussex is expected to appear alongside Australian chef and television personality Poh Ling Yeow when the cooking competition returns in 2027. Meghan previously appeared on “MasterChef Australia” as a guest, and her return to the franchise will see her working with young contestants. Speaking about the opportunity, she expressed enthusiasm for combining her interest in cooking with the chance to work alongside children.
“When they approached me to come back and work with this young group of talent, it was an easy yes,” Meghan said. “I love cooking with my own kids, so seeing what these young stars create in the kitchen is going to be a lot of fun.”
Although the television commitment will bring Meghan back to Australia for filming, there has been no announcement that she and Harry intend to relocate there permanently. The Daily Express poll nevertheless used her upcoming television appearance as the basis for asking whether the Sussexes should consider making Australia their home.

Despite the calls for the couple to leave, Harry has reportedly expressed a desire for his children to experience aspects of the upbringing he enjoyed in Britain. The Duke of Sussex has spoken about the importance of family opportunities in the UK, including the possibility of Archie and Lilibet attending school there. Their reported return at the end of August also placed the family geographically closer to Harry’s royal relatives after years of living across the Atlantic.
Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 before eventually settling in California, where they raised their two children largely away from the British royal spotlight. Their relationship with senior members of the royal family has remained strained following interviews, Harry’s memoir “Spare,” and the couple’s Netflix documentary.

While the poll revealed strong opposition among participating readers, Harry and Meghan have also received public support since their reported return. During a joint appearance in Nottingham in October, the couple were greeted by well-wishers who gathered to see them as they visited local charities. Supporters handed them flowers and gifts, creating a noticeably warmer reception than the criticism reflected in the online poll. The visit also provided a public glimpse of the Sussexes working together in Britain, years after stepping away from their official royal responsibilities.
For supporters, their charity engagements remain an important part of the couple’s public work, while critics continue to question their motives for returning. The contrasting reactions show that Harry and Meghan’s presence in Britain continues to draw sharply different responses, even as Meghan’s upcoming Australian television commitment raises fresh discussion about where the family might eventually settle.
