The family-friendly area sees approximately 7 million tourists per year thanks to its stunning views, laid-back atmosphere, and affordability. According to a survey conducted by the local visitors bureau, the majority of those visitors come for vacation with overnight stays that typically last up to six nights.

But what exactly makes it so stunning and fun? It’s a little of everything; the area blends cultural offerings, natural wonders, historical sites, and good old-fashioned fun that everyone can enjoy.

What each Outer Banks island offers visitors

The Outer Banks comprise seven main islands to explore, and each one offers something a little different in terms of both views and things to do.

  • Northern Beaches (Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head): These are the classic beaches for that quintessential vacation feel.
