Meghan Markle’s Dad’s Ex-Wife Reportedly Behind ‘Disturbing’ Letter That Sparked Years Of Secrecy

The mystery surrounding a warning letter about Meghan Markle’s father may finally have an answer, with a new report identifying his first wife as the person who allegedly raised concerns years before the latest scandal erupted. Roslyn Loveless, who was married to Thomas Markle Sr. for more than a decade, reportedly sent the correspondence that reached British police in 2019 and was subsequently shared with the Duchess of Sussex. The revelation adds another layer to the controversy surrounding the 82-year-old former Hollywood lighting director, who is now facing an investigation in the Philippines over allegations involving child sexual abuse material. Thomas Sr. has vehemently denied wrongdoing.

According to Page Six, multiple sources have identified Loveless as the person who allegedly sent a letter detailing troubling accusations against Thomas Sr. The correspondence reportedly reached London’s Metropolitan Police in 2019 before being passed to Meghan and Prince Harry’s office.

Loveless was married to Thomas Sr. from 1964 until 1975, long before he married Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. She is also the mother of Meghan’s older half-siblings, Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr., making the reported revelation particularly significant given the family’s increasingly public disagreements over the allegations.

However, Loveless has not been officially identified as the letter’s author by Scotland Yard, and the full contents of the correspondence have not been publicly released.

Meghan Markle’s Dad Was Previously Criticized By His Ex-Wife

Loveless had spoken critically about her former husband long before the latest allegations emerged. In previous public comments revisited by Page Six, she described Thomas Sr. as an “awful father” and raised accusations concerning his behavior during their marriage. Those earlier claims reportedly included allegations of infidelity, verbal mistreatment, financial neglect, and drug use.

Loveless also expressed concerns about Meghan allowing her father back into her life, suggesting that their troubled family history should not be overlooked. Her past remarks now provide additional context for the reported identification of the letter’s author.

Still, those public criticisms are separate from the serious allegations currently being examined by authorities. They do not independently establish what Loveless knew, what evidence she may have possessed, or precisely what she wrote to police. Thomas Sr. has disputed the current allegations against him, and no finding of criminal wrongdoing has been announced.

The letter became a major point of controversy after Meghan revealed that she had been informed of serious allegations concerning her father years earlier. In her statement, the Duchess of Sussex said the correspondence contained “troubling and disturbing allegations” and that she had understood the authorities were investigating them. She initially recalled the letter being sent to police in 2018, shortly after her marriage to Harry. However, the Metropolitan Police subsequently clarified that its records showed the correspondence was received in January 2019.

A spokesperson for Meghan acknowledged the discrepancy, explaining that the police’s timestamped records should be considered the accurate reference point. Scotland Yard confirmed that the letter had been reviewed and forwarded to the Sussexes’ office for their awareness.

Crucially, the force also acknowledged that the allegations were not passed to other law enforcement agencies. Police are now reviewing their handling of the matter, including whether it should be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Meghan’s comments about the letter offered a different explanation for her long-standing estrangement from Thomas Sr. For years, the breakdown in their relationship had largely been discussed in connection with the staged paparazzi photographs that emerged before her 2018 wedding. However, the duchess said her decision to keep her distance was rooted in concerns about protecting her children.

“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours,” she said in her statement, expressing sympathy for any children who may have been harmed.

She also explained that the allegations influenced her decision not to allow Thomas Sr. to meet Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them,” Meghan stated.

The duchess added that she had trusted authorities to protect other families as well. The identity of the person who allegedly raised those concerns has now become another significant question in the unfolding story.

The renewed attention on the warning letter comes amid a separate investigation in the Philippines. Thomas Jr. recently alleged that he discovered a large quantity of suspected child sexual abuse material among electronic devices and belongings associated with his father at a former residence in Cebu. He subsequently reported his claims to authorities, prompting an examination of the alleged material.

Thomas Sr. has strongly rejected his son’s accusations, describing them as “sick lies” and insisting he could never commit the acts being alleged. He has also disputed his connection to the computers, saying the devices were no longer in his possession after he left Mexico with his son and relocated to the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla told The Guardian that investigators were examining the recovered material, with forensic findings expected within a week. He also said Philippine authorities would coordinate with their counterparts to pursue legal action against Thomas Sr. if sufficient evidence emerged to support charges.

For Meghan’s family, the latest developments have brought renewed scrutiny not only to Thomas Sr. but also to the warning reportedly raised by someone who knew him decades before he became a public figure. And with Loveless now named by sources as the alleged author, attention is turning to what British authorities knew in 2019 and why the allegations were not shared with other law enforcement agencies.
