JetBlue Is Adding New Ways to Reach This Caribbean Island Hot Spot

With its tropical beaches, lush rain forests and glowing bioluminescent bays, Puerto Rico is one of winter’s easiest island escapes. The island’s vibrant culture, cuisine and world-class rum make exploring a joy, whether you’re wandering the colorful streets of Old San Juan or checking into one of the quieter resorts on the west coast that feel a world away—even though it’s just a short flight from most U.S. cities. Add in the fact that U.S. travelers don’t need a passport, and—with Puerto Rican icon and Album-of-the-Year WinnerBad Bunny taking center stage at the 2026 Super Bowl—the island will be even more in the spotlight next year.

And now, getting there is about to get even easier. JetBlue just announced a major expansion from San Juan, adding new flights to five mainland U.S. cities across Florida, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast beginning early next year.

JetBlue has already been growing its footprint in Puerto Rico, with 16% more departures from San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) last year.

“Puerto Rico has shaped JetBlue’s identity for more than two decades,” JetBlue President Marty St. George said in a statement announcing the news. “Our newest routes only deepen our commitment to the island and the communities that have been part of JetBlue’s story since 2002.”

The five new routes launching in March:

  • San Juan (SJU) to Philadelphia (PHL)
Launches March 26; 4x weekly (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat)

  • San Juan (SJU) to Jacksonville (JAX)
Launches March 13; 4x weekly (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat)

  • San Juan (SJU) to Norfolk (ORF)
Launches March 27; 4x weekly (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun)

  • San Juan (SJU) to Richmond (RIC)
Launches March 26; 3x weekly (Tue, Thu, Sat)

  • San Juan (SJU) to Buffalo (BUF)
Launches March 27; 4x weekly (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat)

The expansion also reflects an industry-wide push to hang on to high-value loyalty and co-branded credit card customers. As St. George explained in a previous interview, Puerto Rico represents one of JetBlue’s strongest TrueBlue markets. It’s also strengthening its position in Puerto Rico, as it’s already the largest carrier there.

JetBlue is also giving cold-weather travelers two more warm-weather options: Buffalo to Fort Myers (RSW) beginning March 26, and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Syracuse (SYR) beginning March 5.

It’s all part of JetBlue’s broader plan to grow through major hubs like Fort Lauderdale while deepening its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean—regions where it says its low fares and customer service have helped make it a leading carrier.
