  • Jennifer Lopez says “Proof of Love” explores how pain and grief can reflect deep love

  • Her 18-year-old twins Emme and Max leaving for college inspired her return to the studio

  • The new song will arrive on November’s vinyl reissue of her 2011 album Love?

Jennifer Lopez is writing about her experience with love.

In an interview with Variety on Wednesday, Oct. 29, Lopez opened up about her new song “Proof of Love,” which will be included as a bonus track on the vinyl release of her 2011 album Love? in November.

“It’s really a beautiful song about this kind of duality,” the “On the Floor” singer, 57, said. “It’s this happy dance song, and these are the things that are the proof of love. One of them is pain and grief when someone’s gone. You feel pain and grief. That’s really proof of love.”

“I wanted to make that a happy thing. I wanted to make that a marker instead of this devastating thing,” Lopez added.

Following “Proof of Love,” Lopez will release “a couple of others that are super fun and cunty for my gays,” she told Variety.

Elsewhere in the interview, she said that her 18-year-old twins Emme and Max leaving for college inspired her new music.

“When they’re gone, which is devastating and sad and scary, you’re facing a life that’s totally different now, and you’re like, ‘What am I going to do with this space and this time?'” Lopez said.

“For me, I just went back in the studio. I’ve written some of the best songs that I’ve ever written, and I’m really excited,” she continued. “It’s a very happy era album. It’s some of the most joyous, beautiful songs that have just a tad of a tear in them.”

Lopez released Love? in 2011. The album featured hits like “On the Floor” with Pitbull, “I’m Into You” with Lil Wayne and “Papi.”

In November, in addition to the reissue of the album, Lopez will release a concert film on CBS.

Lopez’s last studio album was 2024’s This Is Me… Now. She also starred in a Netflix movie called Office Romance opposite Brett Goldstein in June.
