“Ghost Rider” gets “heated”: Connor Storrie circles Marvel role opposite Ryan Gosling

Key Points

  • Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie is in talks for a role in Marvel’s Ghost Rider.

  • Storrie is circling an undisclosed villain role opposite Ryan Gosling.

  • The film is on track to release in 2028.

Connor Storrie’s star continues to rise swiftly without burnout, a poetic distinction since the Heated Rivalry breakout is in the process of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a film known for its fiery antihero.

The 26-year-old actor is in talks to join Ryan Gosling in Ghost Rider in an undisclosed villain role, Entertainment Weekly can confirm. Marvel declined to comment. The Hollywood Reporter was among the first to report the story.

The film is directed by Shawn Levy, the filmmaker on Gosling’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie, and it’s slated for release in 2028.

The casting marks a major move for Storrie, whose role as Russian hockey stud Ilya Rozanov in the romance TV series Heated Rivalry made him and costar Hudson Williams overnight sensations. As one of the more in-demand actors of the moment, he has since landed parts in films like Peaked with Molly Gordon and Laura Dern; Please with future Black Panther actor David Jonsson and The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s Lola Tung; and director Sarah Polley’s adaptation of The Bell Jar.

Ghost Rider was announced at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, fulfilling Gosling’s dream of playing the comic book figure. “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time,” he said at the time, alluding to the many instances where the Barbie and La La Land actor mentioned his passion for the material.

The name Ghost Rider has been utilized by multiple characters, but most notably Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who makes a deal with a demon and transforms into the Spirit of Vengeance. Nicolas Cage previously played that role in two standalone films, Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011).

Gabriel Luna then took on the part of Robbie Reyes on the MCU TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This other recognizable iteration of the character is an L.A. mechanic who embraces the powers of hellfire as the flaming skull-marked rider of a fiendish motorcycle.

Storrie is the latest buzzed-about name in the younger generation of Hollywood actors to join the MCU. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Kit Connor (Heartstopper), and Inde Navarrette (Obsession) joined the likes of Samara Weaving (Ready or Not 2: Here I Come), Christopher Abbott (East of Eden), Adam Driver (Ferrari), Maya Boyd (Broadway’s & Juliet), and Asa Germann (Gen V) in the cast of X-Men.

Noah Jupe of A Quiet Place, a.k.a. Sink’s costar in the West End’s Romeo & Juliet, was also confirmed for a role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
