There are some pockets of the world that are so stunning, they look like they were torn from a fairytale book. And truly, Rock City in Lookout Mountain, Georgia is one of those places. The natural formation is a geological and botanical marvel at any time of year, boasting five unique trails that lead adventurers atop and throughout a mountainside with sweeping views and creative man-made attractions.
But perhaps, like most things, it is at its most magical during the holidays. For 31 years, this site has lit up the mountain with twinkling lights and dazzling displays—and year after year, families return to marvel at it all.

Exploring Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights
Get ready to trek. The holiday display winds and weaves from unfathomably tall heights to deep in the caverns. Each explorable area has its own theme and atmosphere, and every one is worth seeing.
Grand Corridor: This simple trail glows with intricately wrapped trees and illuminated pathways through moss-covered rocks. Visitors pass through the “Needle’s Eye” and make their way to the new Stone Vista garden space, catching sights like Goblin’s Underpass and Mushroom Rock along the way.
Bridges Trail: This area is for the bravest adventurers. There are two route choices, and both are equally stunning. Walk confidently across the Stone Bridge or test your courage on the Swing-A-Long Bridge, lit from end to end with twinkling lights.
Carter Cliffs: The big guy himself is usually hanging out on this trail, which passes the original home of Rock City founders Garnet and Frieda Carter. Tourists can tour the historic home and get photos with Santa in this sweet and scenic setting.
Hall of the Mountain King: A tight push through “Fat Man’s Squeeze” leads to the heart of the mountain, where you’ll glimpse the surrounding wonder from the Observation Point—complete with views of the legendary High Falls glowing with holiday lights.
Fairyland Caverns: Aptly named, these caverns are filled with scenes from beloved fairy tales wrapped in illuminated Christmas magic. Continuing along the trail leads visitors into Mother Goose Village.
