Costco’s Dutch Oven Looks Exactly Like a Le Creuset (That Costs 5 Times More)

I’ve wanted a Le Creuset Dutch oven for years. I figured I had plenty of time to save up for one in the deep red Rhône hue—until the brand unexpectedly discontinued that color. I felt heartbroken that the opportunity had slipped away, so I nearly jumped off my couch when I found a stunning look-alike that’s both gorgeous and affordable.

I discovered the dupe on Costco’s website for the incredible price of $84.99, while Le Creuset’s 5.5-quart Signature Round Dutch Oven is a gasp-worthy $455. In true Costco fashion, that $84.99 includes not one Dutch oven, but two! I’m apparently not the only person who can barely tell the difference between this set and the Le Creuset version—the reviews speak for themselves. “I have had my fair share of different Dutch ovens and let me tell you this one is very sturdy, […] beautiful and bakes incredible [loaves],” says one shopper.

How the Lookalike Compares to Le Creuset

I believe that spending money on well-made products pays off in the end—my small but cherished All-Clad collection that still looks and performs like new (after many years of use) is proof. I know investing in a good Dutch oven is worth the cost—it’s a durable, timeless kitchen staple—but I’d happily pay a lot less for similar quality.

There is a size difference—the Tramontina set at Costco includes 4 and 6-quart Dutch ovens, while a standard Le Creuset Dutch oven is 5.5 quarts. Otherwise, though, I can barely tell the difference looking at them. Both brands have a porcelain enamel coating and a brushed gold knob. The specs line up, too. From the effortless-to-clean, triple-layer enamel to the ridges on the inside of the lid designed to collect and redistribute moisture, it feels like the same pot.

If you don’t yet own a Dutch oven, I’d say this is your golden opportunity to snag a kitchen essential. I’m excited for all of the recipes I’ll be making in these beauties—including this cozy Ham and Cheese Pasta Bake—plus all of the oohs and aahs from my guests when they see dinner emerge from the oven.
