Bundle up and head for the (snow) hills in Manitowoc County

MANITOWOC – With some expected snowfall this weekend, you may want to get out and enjoy it — or not, especially if a hot chocolate and good book are calling your name.

But Manitowoc and surrounding areas offer a variety of outdoor activities for some fun no matter the weather.

Some opportunities are weather-dependent, so check the city’s websites or Facebook pages for the latest information.

Snow fun? 6-10 inches of snow expected this weekend across the region

Sledding and skiing options in the Manitowoc area

If skating isn’t your thing, the city also provides a sledding hill at Silver Creek Park set on the shore of Lake Michigan. The hill has set hours, and residents will use it at their own risk. The hill is lighted with public restrooms nearby.

If you have children or if you want to indulge in a favorite childhood memory, there are many places to go sledding in Manitowoc County. Some other sledding locations have included the bowl at Wilson Junior High School and Mishicot Village Park.

Henry Schuette Park, also a city-owned park on the Manitowoc River, is open for snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing, although, again, areas are not groomed specifically for those activities.

A few other locations in Manitowoc County where you can strap on your snowshoes or cross country skis and get some exercise are Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve, the Manitowoc County Ice Age Trail, Camp Sinawa and Point Beach State Forest.

Some information from an article published in 2019 by the Chamber of Manitowoc County was added to this article.
