There are certain hotels that don’t just feel like a place to stay. They feel like home. This fall, we checked into The Newbury Boston, and it reminded me why I adore this property so much. It is elegant in an understated way, warm without trying too hard, and entirely designed for slowing down and savoring the season.
From the second we stepped through the lobby doors, the crisp Back Bay air still clinging to our coats, The Newbury wrapped us in a quiet coziness that is so Boston in the best way. And this holiday season is shaping up to be a fun one at the Newbury, so while you relax at home this Thanksgiving, consider booking a little Boston getaway next month.
Staycation at the Newbury
We settled into our room and spent the afternoon watching the leaves shift from warm gold to deep crimson across the Public Garden. Cozy does not even begin to describe it. The Newbury feels like stepping inside a beautifully designed home. The corner suites are seriously a home-away-from-home; they truly feel like a Back Bay condo.
Our visit was during the Fall, but there are so many fun festive activations coming up for the holidays, I may just need to return even sooner than we planned!
A Ken Fulk Christmas at The Newbury

The hotel is partnering with iconic interior designer and tastemaker Ken Fulk to transform the property into a festive experience unlike anything Boston has seen. Fulk shares a home with his husband in Provincetown and has a personal connection to Boston, so while he may be internationally known, Boston holds a special place in his heart.

One of the most anticipated highlights is the design-forward seasonal decor, including a full transformation of the hotel’s beloved Library. Fulk is bringing his signature holiday magic with festive potted firs, magnolia wreaths, dramatic garlands, and glowing clusters of candles in layered sizes and textures.
Guests can also shop a limited-edition Ken Fulk Holiday Pop-Up, featuring pieces from his coveted home and lifestyle collection such as candles, photo frames, decor accessories, and even stylish dog collars.

Throughout the rest of the property, florals and greenery will be created by Winston’s Flowers. And as a final festive touch, the lobby will feature a handcrafted gingerbread display inspired by The Newbury’s own historic Back Bay façade.
The Return of Holiday Tea

One of The Newbury’s most beloved traditions is also making its return. Holiday Tea will be offered from December 20 through December 23 with one seating daily at 3:30 PM.
Expect J’enwey teas, delicate tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and holiday pastries that feel like works of art. Guests can also upgrade to the Royal Tea, which includes Taittinger Champagne.
The Fireplace Suite Experience, Elevated

And then there is my personal favorite. The Fireplace Suite Experience.
There are hotel amenities. Then there are traditions. For me, this is the latter. Every year I look forward to booking a winter staycation at The Newbury just to cozy up in one of their wood burning fireplace suites. There is something nostalgic, romantic, and undeniably comforting about watching the flames flicker as the world outside grows colder and quieter.

The experience is available throughout the winter 2025 and 2026 season in all 42 wood burning fireplace suites. A dedicated Fireplace Butler prepares the fire using a curated wood menu that includes options like fragrant cherry, quick burning birch, lightly scented oak, and of course New England maple.
This year, the experience has been reimagined with Ken Fulk’s creative touch. Guests will enjoy specialty matchsticks from his collection, a curated Spotify playlist handpicked by Fulk himself, and an updated fireside food and cocktail menu created specifically for cozy season.
Basically, all I am saying is that there are quite a few fun reasons to book a staycation at the Newbury this holiday season!
