Gone are the glamorous days of flying, and we’re used to seeing everything from rude passengers to inhaling unappetizing scents from the lunch of those around us. But when a passenger recently on an American Airlines flight tried to turn her flight into a spa experience, that reached a new level of unacceptable for many of her seatmates.
Recently, in an occurrence that went viral on Reddit and was then reported on by View From the Wing and Live and Let Fly, a woman sitting in the window seat on an American Airlines flight took off her shoes and was barefoot. Now, this would be bad enough to grind the gears of those around her, but then she proceeded to grab a foot callous tool from her carryon and spend the next half hour exfoliating her feet, which, according to those around her, created visible “foot dust.”
Gross.
While we may be long past our PanAm era of flying, no one needs to see that. You can always do your spa at home moment once you deplane and are home or at your hotel. While “foot dust” is not a biohazard, per se, it is pretty gross. No need to make what is already a stressful and uncomfortable travel season any more unappealing!
Interestingly, many airlines have a rule against flying barefoot, and in fact American Airlines has one that states “bare feet or offensive clothing aren’t allowed.” So, perhaps the real question here is why flight attendants did not intercede and enforce that rule and avoid this incident from progressing any further!
