Several Alpine hotels in Switzerland and Austria have begun offering a flat rate, allowing winter holiday fans unlimited access to a room throughout the ski season, with the Swiss Revier Group rolling it out across all six of its properties.
The offer covers hotels at Adelboden, St. Gallenkirch in Montafon and Kaprun in the state of Salzburg – Swiss and Austrian areas known for their snowy Alpine landscapes, cable car routes and ski resorts.
In Kaprun, the flat rate costs €1,999 ($2,299) and allows overnight stays with a second person between the hotel’s reopening on December 12 and April 6.
The deal isn’t without limits, however. Bookings can be made no earlier than two days before arrival and individual stays are capped at a maximum of five nights.
There must also be a break of at least two nights between departure and a new arrival. The flat rate covers accommodation only, without breakfast, and applies to the lowest room category.
What if that category is unavailable on a preferred date? “There is no guarantee of a room,” the Revier Group told dpa. If the lowest category is sold out, an upgrade to a higher category is possible, with the price difference charged.
If the hotel is fully booked, guests must switch to another date.
“The flat-rate offer is aimed in particular at guests who are flexible in terms of timing and plan several stays per season,” it said. The second person can change each time, but the flat-rate holder must be present.
The group tested the flat-rate offer last winter at its property in the Swiss resort of Saas-Fee and said it sold around 100 flat rates. The average length of stay was 11 nights.
