Airbnb told Newsweek there isn’t enough information to confirm if it is one of the platform’s listings, but hosts are encouraged to share house rules with guest before booking
A traveler is sharing the peculiar instructions he found attached to the bed in his vacation rental.
In a photo shared in the r/mildlyinfuriating forum on Reddit, a sheet of white paper can be seen taped to the wooden frame. It reads, “Use only to sleep/no other activities.”
“Came here with my wife,” the original poster (OP) wrote in the caption of his post. “Oh well.”
The traveler, a man from Sweden visiting Istanbul, tells Newsweek he and his wife were “surprised” to find the sign in the rental; however, they confirmed to the outlet they’d be respecting the request.
The guest elaborated he thinks he might’ve found some additional context for the unconventional house rule.
“There is another note explaining that neighbors are very sensitive to noise,” the OP tells Newsweek. “So, maybe it has something to do with that. That’s my best guess.”

A man packs a suitcase inside a rental property.
But the odd instructions didn’t stop there. In the comments, the OP shared a photo of a TV remote with a sticker at the bottom that reads “Use only to turn the TV on/off.”
Despite the strange labels left by his host, the poster said he doesn’t want his experience to hinder anyone’s views of the city.
“If I had one message, it’s that the sticker situation shouldn’t reflect on anyone’s perception of Istanbul. It’s a lovely city with great people and we feel very welcome here,” the OP says. “It’s more likely a neighbor situation that can happen anywhere.”
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, an Airbnb representative said there isn’t enough information to confirm if the photo comes from a listing hosted on the company’s platform.
“However our ground rules require hosts to disclose applicable house rules before booking, so guests can make an informed decision about a space,” the representative said. “Our 24/7 community support team is on hand to help in the rare event of any issues during a stay.”
The post, which garnered more than 87,000 upvotes and 2,400 comments, prompted fellow Reddit users to offer their own comedic takes on the situation.
“Me laying in bed awake… got em,” one user commented.
“No bed rotting in that Airbnb,” another said.
Another made a suggestion: “Is there [a sign] on the kitchen table, couch or other suitable locations? If not… well, there’s your opportunity.”

Others speculated on the reason the sign was placed there in the first place.
One user thought: “I feel like this means they aren’t planning to wash the sheets.”
To which another replied, “The other possibility is that the bed may break. It may not be sturdy enough for ‘activities.’ ”
