A final morning in Venice could require more airport planning than visitors expect.
Travelers leaving the Italian city this Friday have been warned to allow extra time for departure procedures, a concern for anyone facing an early flight or a tight onward connection.
The warning relates to security screening. Passengers should know what the airport has announced, how early to arrive and whether their airline has issued separate instructions.
24-Hour Sicuritalia Walkout Threatens Friday Security Queues
Venice Marco Polo Airport published a notice on October 26 warning that security procedures could be slower than usual on Friday, October 30, because of a planned 24-hour strike by Sicuritalia security staff.

The airport’s official notice advises passengers to arrive well in advance of their flights. It does not provide an estimated waiting time or identify specific departures that will be affected.
The airport has not announced flight cancellations as part of this warning. The stated concern is that passengers could spend longer clearing security, leaving less time to reach their gates.

Passengers should also follow any different instructions issued by their airline.

Because screening could take longer on Friday, travelers should check their flight information before leaving for the airport and allow additional flexibility where possible.
The airport provides departure updates through its official flight information pages. Check-in and baggage-drop requirements can vary by airline.
Fisascat-CISL Union Targets Staff Shortages and Idle Scanners
The dispute centers on working conditions, staffing and the operation of airport security screening.
In a September report on an earlier stoppage by the same workforce, local outlet Ultima Ora Live reported that Fisascat-CISL had raised concerns about staff shortages, demanding shifts, last-minute schedule changes and the terms of outsourced service contracts.

The union also alleged that only three or four of the airport’s 11 screening machines were normally in use, contributing to queues that could last an hour.
It called for better staffing, compliance with collective labor agreements and payment of contractual allowances.
Screening Delays Risk Missed European and US Flight Connections
Venice draws visitors for its canals, historic architecture and cultural landmarks.
St. Mark’s Square, St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace are among the best-known attractions in the historic center, while the city’s museums, palaces and waterfront neighborhoods give visitors reasons to stay for several days.
Marco Polo Airport serves travelers arriving for these sights as well as those departing for destinations across Europe and the United States.

The official Venezia Unica tourism portal highlights the city’s major cultural sites.
For Americans ending a European trip in Venice, a slow security queue could complicate an early flight home or a connection elsewhere in Europe.
The practical step is to follow the airport’s early-arrival advice, check the specific flight and watch for updates from the airline before departure.
