“I Will Never Go Back” — This 4-Page Vacation Rental To-Do List For Guests Checking Out Is Going Viral For Being Absolutely Bonkers

Recently, Redditor Party_Wrangler7949 shared a checkout checklist they apparently received upon stepping into their vacation rental.

Yes. It is FOUR pages long.

The first two may not be so bad. The first instruction is to return the garage openers to a bin in the kitchen, or pay a $125 fee if they are lost.

Then, return all the main room’s remotes to their holders, or pay a $25 fee per remote if they’re missing.

OK, now things get a bit out of control. In the front room, guests are required to return all pillows, books, and decor to their original places.

The same rule also applies for the great room.

Again, remotes need to be returned to holders.

Laundry for the six throw blankets needs to be started.

And the fireplace must be turned off. (This one is reasonable. Please, no unattended fires!)

In the dining room, guests must return all eight placemats to their spots, along with the four table games.

The table’s vase and decor tray must be accounted for on the dining table.

To make matters more daunting, Party_Wrangler7949 said the list was “in addition to the outrageous cleaning fee they charged when we booked it.”

On Reddit, where the image was originally shared, thousands of people flooded the comment section with responses.

They’re suggesting guests leave a picture of the checkout list in the rental’s review section.

And they’re sharing their own nightmare encounters. One person wrote, “Last Airbnb I stayed in wanted us to wash the sheets, make the beds, sweep the floors, run the dishes, wipe the counters, etc. on top of a $150 cleaning fee.”

Another added, “I’ve stayed in a lot of airbnbs if they charge a cleaning fee I just ignore whatever lists they have. I paid for the cleaning I’m not doing extra work, fuck outta here, they live off reviews, they leave me a bad one, I leave them a worse one. If the place charges a budget rate and small cleaning fee I will do some of the list, but this is your profession and I’m not going to do your job for you.”

This, commenters say, is why many have switched back to hotels. “We started staying at hotels again (even with two small kids) and the service of really any hotel feels so luxurious after comparing it to airbnbs over the years. I will never understand paying for a place to stay on vacation and then worrying about dishes and taking out trash. I will never go back to that.”
