Booking your next Puerto Rico getaway may be easier than ever for people who opt to fly there using JetBlue, after the airline announced that it will be adding five more stops to its already robust service of the island.

The new flights will depart from multiple U.S. airports, giving the airline arguably the biggest foothold in the island. Of course, passengers will need to wait a little bit before they can hop on a flight from one of these new departure sites, since the rollout isn’t slated to begin until early 2026. Here’s what we know.

JetBlue will add nearly a half dozen routes to Puerto Rico in the new year

The airline made the announcement on Dec. 3 through a statement on its official website, sharing the happy news. According to the statement, the company is adding a new nonstop flight service from the following cities:

The service will begin in March 2026, but travelers can take advantage of the planned routes now, since tickets are already being sold by the airline. And, that’s not all. To celebrate the news, JetBlue is offering a limited number of tickets at an introductory price of just $99 each way.

“Puerto Rico has shaped JetBlue’s identity for more than two decades,” Marty St. George, JetBlue’s president, wrote in a statement. “Our newest routes only deepen our commitment to the island and the communities that have been part of JetBlue’s story since 2002. We’re proud to continue investing in Puerto Rico and creating more travel opportunities for customers across our growing network.”

Things to do in San Juan

Whether you hop on one of JetBlue’s 22 nonstop flight routes, or you opt to travel to the island via another airline, you’re bound to find plenty to do when you arrive in San Juan. The city is known for its beautiful old cobblestone streets and historic buildings, which is perfect for those looking to soak in the sights.

For history buffs, there is plenty to see thanks to the old forts that were originally built to protect the city. Visitors can buy a ticket to tour some of the sites, like Castillo San Cristóbal, by visiting the National Park Service website. Like most national parks, these protected landmarks can be enjoyed for a low price ($10 in this case), and pass holders can visit multiple parks across the country with an America the Beautiful Pass ($80).

If you’re looking to take in some culture, the official Discover Puerto Rico website says you can explore the neighborhood of Santurce, which is full of opportunities to enjoy local art and award winning restaurants. Some of the more popular options include:

  • Vianda, whose chef was a James Beard nominee in 2019

Of course, many people head to Puerto Rico to enjoy the beautiful natural amenities, like the beaches—Condado and Playita del Condado are favorites—kayak, surf, snorkel with turtles, or visit the El Yunque Rainforest.

Since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, residents do not need a passport to visit the island. However, you will need to be mindful of the changing rules surrounding REAL IDs, to verify what type of identification will be required ahead of your flight.
