The Gist
Marquise-cut diamonds are having a moment, but their appeal is anything but new.
From first engagements to ever-growing ring collections, celebrities have long gravitated toward the timeless silhouette.
InStyle rounds up seven celebrities who have said yes to marquise engagement rings, from Selena Gomez to Victoria Beckham.
I’ll admit, I thought Selena Gomez was single-handedly responsible for the resurgence of marquise-cut engagement rings with her stunning 8-carat sparkler. But as it turns out, the elongated diamond shape has been a celebrity favorite for decades. And while round and emerald cuts may dominate modern bridal trends, there’s something undeniably romantic about the marquise silhouette that keeps it coming back into the spotlight.
With its pointed ends, sculptural form, and vintage appeal, the marquise cut strikes the perfect balance between understated elegance and statement-making sparkle. Of course, understated is relative when you’re talking about celebrity diamonds. Just look at Jackie Kennedy Onassis, whose 40.42-carat marquise engagement ring remains one of the most famous jewels in jewelry history. And while some stars have collected more than one engagement ring with each passing marriage milestone, their marquise diamonds prove that this classic cut has serious staying power.
Whether you’re searching for your own forever ring or simply love a peek inside Hollywood’s most dazzling jewelry boxes, there’s no shortage of inspiration. Ahead, discover seven celebrities who said yes to marquise engagement rings, from sentimental sparklers to multimillion-dollar diamonds.

After one year of dating, record producer Benny Blanco popped the question to Selena Gomez with a stunning engagement ring during an intimate, Taco Bell-themed proposal (goals?!) in 2024. The 8-carat-marquise-cut diamond reportedly draws inspiration from the lyrics of Gomez’s 2015 song with A$AP Rocky, “Good For You,” in which she sang, “I’m a marquise diamond, could even make that Tiffany jealous.” The personal touch is the cherry on top to the already dazzling sparkler, which is estimated to be worth $225,000.

Before her ever-growing collection of engagement rings, Victoria Beckham said yes to David Beckham in January 1998 with a classic 3-carat marquise-cut diamond. Crafted by British jeweler Boodles (formerly Boodle & Dunthorne), the elongated solitaire was set on a simple yellow gold band, letting the diamond take center stage. While the fashion icon has since amassed an impressive collection of 15 engagement rings, her original sparkler remains the most understated, with an estimated value of $85,000 to $110,000.

Few engagement rings have achieved quite the legendary status of Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s 40.42-carat marquise diamond. In 1968, five years after the death of President John F. Kennedy, the former First Lady said yes to Aristotle Onassis, who went big with a Harry Winston diamond known as the Lesotho III. Cut from a 601-carat rough diamond discovered in Lesotho, the striking stone was reportedly worn a couple of times before finding a more permanent home in a vault. In 1996, the iconic ring resurfaced at auction, fetching an impressive $2.59 million.

Ashlee Simpson’s engagement ring is a departure from the classic diamond solitaire. When Evan Ross proposed in Hawaii in January 2014, he presented the singer with a Neil Lane creation featuring a 5-carat marquise diamond, calibrated rubies, and more than 140 accent diamonds. Inspired by an antique piece from Lane’s archives, the design reportedly incorporated input from Simpson’s mother and is estimated to be worth between $450,000 and $500,000.
