Fortunately, you don’t need a big budget to enjoy stunning destinations worldwide. From white sandy beaches to cultural European experiences, anything is possible.

Keep reading as we explore some of the most affordable travel spots for boomers heading into 2026.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach is a popular travel destination for seniors looking to enjoy a little beach time and play on some of the country’s best golf courses. But it doesn’t stop there. With miles of hiking and recreation trails, along with an abundance of fishing and boating opportunities, there’s something for everyone.

If food is a big part of your travels, Myrtle Beach is going to hit the spot. With a vibrant boardwalk that’s filled with popular restaurants like Pier14 Restaurant and Bar or RipTydz Oceanfront Grille, you’ll enjoy great food no matter what you’re in the mood for.

Plus, with its mild year-round temperatures, this is a great location no matter what time of year you’re looking to vacation.

“With warm weather and walkable beachfront, tons of golf and pickleball and cheap prices, Myrtle Beach is ideal for retirees,” said Jesse Neugarten, founder and CEO of Dollar Flight Club. “Plus, off-season hotel rates are a steal and the airport is well connected, so airfare stays reasonable.”

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Are you ready to immerse yourself in culture? Head to Albuquerque for your next vacation. With a vibrant mix of Native American and Spanish influences reflected in the food, art and festivals, you’ll soon wish you had more days to stay.

With over 300 days of sunshine and low humidity, this is the perfect place for anyone worried about how the weather might impact their trip.

Are you planning something for next October? Make sure to attend the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the largest balloon festival in the U.S., with over 500 balloons participating each year.

“Albuquerque is a great value for Southwest culture and views,” Neugarten said. “Their day-to-day costs are lower for hotels and dining and it’s easy to tack on short, scenic day trips to Santa Fe, petroglyph sites or hot springs.”

Lisbon, Portugal

Want to venture outside the United States? Head to either Lisbon. Portugal has long been considered one of Europe’s most affordable and retiree-friendly countries.

In Lisbon, you’re going to find charming neighborhoods, great public transit and excellent dining at low prices. Plus, you’ll have dozens of options for accommodations ranging from big hotel chains to small boutique hotels like the 1908 Lisboa Hotel or Almalusa Baixa, where you can book nights for under $200.

Some retirees worry about the language barrier, but English is widely spoken and locals are friendly to tourists and expats.

“Lisbon is a sweet spot for retirees,” Neugarten said. “You’re going to find walkable neighborhoods, reliable public transit with senior discounts, mild weather and costs well below major U.S. cities. Aim for traveling in April-May or September for the best mix of price and crowds.”

Key West, Florida

Anyone looking for an island paradise without a passport will love Key West. While certain times of the year can be a bit more expensive, there are plenty of deals to discover if you’re planning to travel during the off-season months.

Key West is known for its relaxed vibe, pastel-colored buildings and beautiful sunsets. Plus, it’s easy to get around on foot, by bike or scooter, so you don’t need to rent a car.

While Key West is filled with several luxury hotels, there are also a lot of excellent options that fit within many budgets, like The Perry Hotel or Ocean’s Edge Resort and Marina.
