Kate Middleton has been making headlines recently for her cancer diagnosis, but there’s something else people are talking about: the Princess of Wales’ nose. Middleton has numerous features that the public admires, from her chestnut hair to her royal chic wardrobe. However, her nose is the one physical feature that has launched a worldwide plastic surgery trend. The princess’s nose became an extremely popular cosmetic surgery option for women around the world as she became more well-known in the public eye.
When this trend first arose, plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg commented that the procedure had become so popular that his team had “made a file of a dozen Kate Middleton pictures” to present patients with when they would come to the clinic for a consultation. The journalist in this original article also interviewed the Lenox Hill Hospital director of facial plastic surgery, Dr. Thomas Romo, alongside a patient who requested the now-iconic Kate Middleton nose.
Dr. Romo established that approximately 100 of the rhinoplasties he had done were to mimic Kate’s nose, and the number of requests skyrocketed when Princess Kate and Prince William’s wedding took place. He added that his patients were “looking to a natural nose on a beautiful woman,” and since the Duchess was often on TV or in newspapers and magazines, people looked to her as the perfect model of a petite, perky nose.
Before the rise of Kate Middleton’s popularity, Romo added that Jennifer Aniston’s nose was the previous standard that people would come in and request due to the show “Friends.”
Jessica Blaier, a patient who requested the Middleton rhinoplasty, said that she wanted the procedure because as soon as she laid eyes on Kate’s nose, she knew it was an ideal look for her, combining all the different celebrities that Blaier expanded, “The bridge swoops. The tip doesn’t fall when she smiles. And it’s feminine.” That said, people didn’t immediately notice that Blaier’s nose was a Kate Middleton copycat, and she’s absolutely fine with that. However, she’s happy with the inspiration that she chose.
